Henry VII

Do you know what the meaning of your name is? Henry means, "King" and you own your name like few do.

Instead of a surprising day of rule, your 7th birthday instead brought a day of peaceful rule. No rival brothers plotting for your throne. No governing bodies interfering with your decrees. King Henry ruled without conflict and the permagrin on your face showed your pleasure.

Traditionally, your day began with a promised day of yeses. Eggs with ketchup, bacon AND sausage appeared from your dutiful cook. A private carriage took you to school instead of a stinky yellow bus. While you went about your optional day of learning, your lowly steward baked, wrapped and shopped for later activities.

Sam was particularly happy about the bacon request.

It's a little early for pictures, Mom.

As is becoming someone in your powerful position, you occasionally bestow mercy when plans fail. Upon receiving word that the requested brownies failed to set into shapes other than undercooked blobs, you pardoned the inept baker and accepted cheese sticks and apple juice as your school birthday treat instead.

Singing the Happy Birthday song.

Singing the Happy Birthday song a little loud for this King's ears.

Oh...who are we kidding?  He loved it. And look at all of this attention from the ladies!

I was embarrassed about the cheese sticks but the kids loved them.  They are probably excited about any food presented in the middle of the day.

This picture shows that in addition to the cheese sticks, a certain young prince was also a hit in the class.  I believe Henry is the only student in the classroom not watching Daniel's every move.

When I arrived at the school, I noticed this new video monitor/buzzer system.  They installed it over the break.  It makes me sad but, unfortunately, also glad.

It's just so odd because this school is such a country bumpkin school.  Literally out in the middle of nowhere with farms and cows all around.  I guess that might make it less safe too.  So far away from first responders.

Your court of friends and relatives enjoyed the pottery painting party. A few extras to the party (mother of friend brought siblings too. So weird. Am I the only one who thinks so?) didn't diminish your glee but did add to the cost (Seriously, who does this?). Like most kings, your favorite part were the gifts received.

About the only time we saw this lady.  I thought I was paying for someone else to do the birthday party but I was only paying for her to say, "Here is some paint.  Here are some things to paint."  And, I suppose, for her to glaze and finish them.  It was a hard party.

Henry decided to paint a car.

Henry and his first grade friends.

A little cake quieted things down for a bit.

Aunt Patty was an angel.  She came and took care of Daniel.  Mommy might have been in a straight jacket muttering to herself if Aunt Patty hadn't come to help.

Daniel made a mug with his 1 year-old foot print on it.

Wiping it off.

Henry and Tanner.

Owen and Henry.

Henry and Eli

A family party followed bestowing more cake and gifts. Nothing gives pleasure to a young noble like sugar and toys. I broke my own rules by purchasing something with many, many parts but you seem to enjoy them so far, in spite of their state (I got the whole train set used and it was more used than I thought).

Seven candles!

All blown out.

Grandpa and Grandma J brought over a sweet Angry Birds Hot Wheels track and a card with money!

Grandpa and Grandma H sent a card with money.

Dad bought you a cap gun.  You'll shoot your eye out!

Playing with your favorite toy of the day....a whoopie cusion.

Mom got three bins full of used Thomas the Tank Engine toys.  Wood and plastic tracks, almost every train conceivable and other accessories.  It took many hours to clean them up and they still smell a bit like smoke but I'm hoping that will go away.  Plus side, almost every piece already has sharpie marker on it.  I didn't think there was another child in the universe who loved marking things with sharpie marker as much as Henry but there is!  And now, we have his train set!

You are charismatic and kind. A bit of a despot at times but your loyal subjects love you and support you. Happy Birthday King Henry!

Who are these jokers?  Just doting parents who adore you.

Cute. Happy Birthday Henry!

Ahh birthdays. Great reminder of the weariness of the actual birth. Cheese sticks instead of brownies, you are awesome! Letting the party hostess pay for your other children is whacked.

But look at Henry's grin in every picture, you did good!

I am always amazed when people assume they can bring a sibling(or 2 or more!)to a party where I am paying $10 per person. Sometimes people ask when they RSVP and I am fine with that, at least then I know to expect to spend an extra $30 etc.

A pottery party sounds fun though! I am all about having a party where someone else has to clean up the mess and shoo everyone out when the time is up.

Our school is upping security, too. Same feelings here: sad that it's necessary, especially in a small, family-oriented community. But also glad they're doing it.

Now, let's see if this comment disappears like my previous ones. Wish we could figure out that glitch!!

Love all the fun pics of Henry's birthday! I can't believe someone would leave their kids at a party and then have you pay for their stuff. No it's not normal! I don't know why those sorts of people find you either....
Tell Seth I like his hair cut!

So tacky that the siblings came to the party uninvited! I had a similar thing happen at Lys' party this year. They weren't siblings but other friends of one of the guests. The mother who brought them offered to pay for them but it was still positively awkward!

Glad Henry was smiling all day, just as it should be on your birthday.

Happy Birthday, Henry!

Yes, super rude and tacky to bring extra kids without asking or offering to pay for them. Actually, it would be rude even if they DID ask. They should go by the name(s) on the invitation!!

By the way, I just read The Paris Wife, and I LOVED it! Thanks for reviewing it on your blog.
