SPT - Spring Fever

the challenge for next week is to get outside!! when you see those first daffodils, hear those birds heading back north, don those capris for the first time, how do you feel? do you have that familiar allergy tickle in the back of your throat? do you dig in the dirt? do you throw open the windows and let in the light? do you grab your feather dusters and sweep away the last of the winter dust? how about those cobwebs that have been lingering in your head?!?

Of the four seasons, Spring is my least favorite (gasp!). But wait. . .that doesn't mean I hate little bunny rabbits, spring chicks and daffodils. I don't hate spring. Perhaps it's growing up in Montana, when spring truly doesn't start until late April or early May. It seems that the big day comes...the 20th or 21st of March, and there's nada, zilch, nothing to be excited about. It's still cold, and March seems like another month of winter (albeit there usually isn't snow anymore. Usually.)

My favorite thing about seasons is the welcome change each one brings to me. Fall is my favorite because the change happens at the beginning of the season. There is nothing better than the slight cooling after a long, hot summer, the leaves changing colors and the return of school and football. My next favorite is Winter because it brings out the cozy. Cocoa and mittens, fires and down blankets. But after a couple of months, winter gets too long. Especially come February.

So when Spring "comes", I almost feel tricked. It's not spring yet. Spring is when you don't need a coat anymore. Spring is when you get in your car and it's already warm. Spring is when the air is literally sweet with blossoming trees and flowers. Lilacs and tulips sprout up everywhere. I do love that part. But we haven't gotten to that part yet up here.

My absolute favorite thing about Spring is Easter. I love celebrating rebirth and renewal. And along those lines are pastel colors. Baby blue, butter yellow, seafoam green, soft pink...I think of babies and new dresses, unscuffed white shoes and robin egg candies that you can lick and smear on your lips. It is no accident that we celebrate the resurrection while being reminded of rebirth everywhere we turn.

It's gloomy and rainy today. I went looking for a pastel shirt to wear for my self-portrait and do not own a single one. Question...do we actually have to be in the picture? Not wanting to break any rules, I snapped a shot in front of the only thing growing yet in my yard.

Next question...do we always have to take our own picture? I guess "self" portrait would imply that we do. But they are always such nasty, wall-eye, big faced things.

These are my lovely flowering bushes in front of my living room windows. We pruned them last fall but they grow and grow each year until they spill out over the walkway. Eventually, in the summer, yellow buds decorate the green foliage (attracting lots of bees).

Oh but your self portraits are so pretty! Mine aren't- therefore I avoid them, much better to look at the scenery then me...lol!

So is your hair naturally curly like mine? I like it, must share products with me, mine needs an overhaul! :)

Mmm, candy, lick and smeared.

I go for the "She Photographs Tuesday" instead of the "Self Portrait" title.

I like your haircut, I like it curly. The original picture you posted I think it was straight. I love curly hair.

I'm glad you don't hate bunnies!

Self portraits are always tricky. You have the best description of spring. My favorite was licking candy and smearing them on our lips. Who hasn't done that right?

I love that you gave spring a new perspective definitely a great month in celebrating the resurrection/rebirth of Christ! Great words my friend.

Spring is my least favorite season too. Aren't we basking in a glorious spring day today...rain, sleet, gray!!

I do love Easter, Easter Dresses, Pastels and the BEST PART Easter Candy. I love Robin Eggs...two gifts in one...a tasty treat and a new shade of lipstick!! I taught that trick to my girls just the other day. ;)

Yesterday felt like Spring here (78 degrees) and I should have taken my pictures then. Instead I waited until today and now it is cold and raining outside. Ugh!

Love the curls!

Love your descriptions of Spring, but wish you lived somewhere you could enjoy it sooner. I love how you talked about rebirth. So true. I also love how you embrace our curls. You look cute and wish I liked mine enough to wear my curls sometimes.

I think you can do it either way. If you look at Jenny's, she has some of both.

I had to laugh at your post, because, for me, growing up in Montana it was the SAME!!!

And Autumn is my favorite season too, but winter is my least favorite by a mile!!

mud - mud - mud, ahhh it's spring! Thank goodness for Easter and those little tiny flowers budding around my front lawn . . . I'm eternally grateful for the previous homeowner who planted those gems! :-)

Yes, the curls are mine. The haircut helped but they still aren't what they used to be. But I still straighten it when I get "ready". Or use a curling iron to help the curl along. You are seeing my semi-low-maintenance do. A little more effort than twisting it up or ponytail...but barely.

Victoria - my favorite curl product is called Recoil by AG. It's a canadian company.

i love that you are asking quesitons about spt...

the smearing of the eggs -- oh wow, i haven't thought about that in years. thanks for the memories. must add those to my list so i can share with the girls.

most of all i love the words you wrote and your hair! I am always jealous of curly hair. mine is stick straight and very fine so doesn't do a lot. love the curls!!

Self portraits are hard. That is why I taught my 5 year to take pictures :)

What a great post. Thanks for reminding me of the real reason for Easter. Celebrating the resurrection/rebirth of Christ.
