A Few Things

  • I think I have a rotator cuff injury. It hurts to put on my bra and wrap a towel around myself (I'm just using those examples to explain the type of motion that causes the most pain in my shoulder. I'm really not trying to put any traumatic images in your head).
  • I worked out at the gym today for the first time in a month. The daycare people even said, "It's been awhile since we've seen you." I guess it's a good thing that they recognize me, right?
  • I almost made a major gaffe. On Sunday, my heart sunk as I realized despite my best intentions, I had never called and "made sure" the church building was reserved for our ward activity on Saturday night. I called the building scheduler, even though every 3rd Saturday is supposed to be automatically reserved for our ward's use, and was told that the building was scheduled for a wedding reception. I have felt sick for the last two days, but when finally calling my bishop yesterday to explain my lameness and apologize, he...um.....happily?....informed me that the wedding was off! I guess the fiance was a bad apple. So, pizza and game night is back on! I'm so glad. For a no hassle ward activity, making calls about it being canceled was going to be a lot more work than I intended to do.
  • Yesterday, while I was driving Sam, Henry, Matt and Kate back to my house for an afternoon of play, Sam asked me, "Mom, what's a hooker?" I knew, I just knew, he couldn't mean what it means so kept stalling and digging for more information. "What?" "A hooker." "How do you spell it?" "huh?" "What did you see it on?" Whispering to Matt, "I told you." More panic as I ask, "I don't understand what you mean. Tell me again." This time...."You know...something that hooks something else." "On a car?" "Yeah". "Oh...that's called a tow truck." "No..what's the hooker called." "Um....I think it's called a hitch." "Yes, that's right. A hitch" Thank goodness. I really didn't think a five and four year old were curious about that.
  • I almost broke my arm yesterday. I was driving through a drive through to get lunch for Sam and Henry (I swear...not for me. I had a solitary lunch reading at Cafe Rio. Instead of volunteering during my kid-free part of our swap day, I went and got Seth outfitted for scouts. Then I had about 40 minutes until pick-up time and treated myself to the pork tostada. Yummy). Anyway, you know those garbage cans that have an opening at just the right height for a driver to throw stuff away from their rolled down window? On my way to window #1, I gathered a bunch of garbage off the passenger seat to throw away. The problem was, I didn't come to a complete stop and I was going just fast enough to slam my arm against the car door frame with my hand still reaching into the garbage. It still hurts. But separately from my shoulder. Same arm though.
  • It's been windy and cold for two days now. It makes me grumpy and irrational. If I miss 60 degree weather and am suddenly forced to be hot for several months, skipping our pleasant spring jacket weather because this cold has gone on for too long, I will not be reasonable this summer. I need transitions. Spring and Fall are great buffers against summer for me. Love summer, and all of its opportunities, but I don't do well with persistent heat. Besides, I really dislike wind. It makes me feel sad. And nervous.

Tell me something about your day.

In Fairbanks where I grew up, there was a towing business called the Happy Hooker. Har har!

Hope your shoulder and arm feel better soon!

Sorry about the arm injuries. Every mom needs the use of at least two arms. Hope it starts feeling better.

Love the Sammy story--hilarious.

I can't think of anything interesting about my day. I volunteered at the school, cut out butterflies and snipped pipe cleaners, and after hearing your solitary lunch idea I'm wishing I'd made the same choice.

I was asked about 'the hooker man' one day. Thank goodness Nate was meaning the same thing as Sam.

My day was all over the place. I'm just so unmotivated to sit and blog about it. Dentist, doctor, laundry, a haircut and a 4 month old that only napped in his car seat. Not a good combo in case you were wondering, ;).

I hope your arm/shoulder feel better. Mom's don't need any more pains than they already have, right?

Yes, lucy yes, where is the spring? I want a transition.

Sorry about your arm. I had no idea you had another injury aside from your rotator cuff. Could you have imagined if you did break it at the drive thru? What a story.

the "hooker" conversation cracks me up. It's a good thing you stalled.

I feel the same about the weather. It is making me very grumpy and is so hard on the kids. We're all ready for spring but mother nature is not cooperating.

I'm so glad you didn't break your arm. It sounds like it hurt!

driving down the road, passing a billboard, jack asks me, "mom, why do they call that restaurant Hooters?"

i still don't know how i recovered from that one!

I'll be sending Doug right over. Ouch about your shoulder and arm. Doug hurt his rotator cuff during a missionary/elders football match during medical school, it still bothers him.

That conversation has got me giggling. Thank goodness it was just a hitch. Jared once came home and asked me if the middle finger meant saying all the bad words at one time. In which I replied yup and don't ever do it. Thankfully that was the end of that one.

I wish I had some exciting news to report, other than I am tired of no one wanting my house. House begone!! And it's only been 19 says, sigh.

I am jealous of your pork tostada. Yum!

Hey...I know a good Orthopedist here. You should definitely get your shoulder checked out. Hope your arm feels better soon.
Glad your ward pizza game night is on! What a lot of anxiety over an activity. You'll be glad when it's over. Funny about Sammy. He's so cute. We got back here from Spring Break and it has been windy and cold, too. Today, however the sun is shining and it's supposed to hit 70, so I'm happy. Then it's back to the 50's. Hope you have some happy weather soon!

It sounds like the drive-by trash dumping may be the cause of your arm and rotator cuff woes, ouch!

I need weather transitions too so the past couple days of cold and windy have really done a number on me. I'm super happy that it's nice today!

Phew on the building scheduling incident! That could have been a nightmare.

I'm so sorry about your arm. I hope it feels better soon. I AM very jealous of your Cafe Rio Lunch. I also had a ball reading all about your trip. I want to go to S. Carolina and Georgia so badly. It was also fun to read about your parents return. Glad you are still blogging. Love the new layout.

I loved seeing all your pictures. Looks like a great trip to S.C.

I also can't believe Seth is now Baptised!!! They grow up so fast.

So sorry you have an injured arm and shoulder. I hope some nice warm weather and sunshine comes your way quick!!!!

Good thing you didn't dive right in with an explanation of what a hooker was? Imagine the confusion then?

The arm injury is a little funny. "How did you hurt your arm?"

"I didn't come to a full stop when I was dumping trash in the trash can."

I'm sure it hurts, sorry for laughing.

It's windy here too. You are right, I never pinpointed the source of my anxiety, but it is definitely the wind. I don't mind heat, no wind though.

I am dying over the hooker conversation. Oh man. I have already had a few with Mya where I have had to fish for more information before answering.

Hope by now your arm is feeling better- or at least by volleyball season. Who else would I live vicariously through?
