one of my favorite comments has to be "plays well with others." elementary school social skills speak volumes for the people we will become. were you a shy child? were you the class clown? the social butterfly? do you still identify with that inner child? what are you doing for "play" this weekend?
do you play well with others?
do you play well with others?
At first glance this seems like a fun self-portrait challenge. I have always been social and tend to make friends easily. I immediately thought of the great friendships I have been blessed with throughout my life. I love to play. I love my friends. I definitely play well with others.
But as the week progressed and I looked through old pictures and tried to find any newer pictures (I'm really not in very many. . .it's the mom photographer phenomenon) and the truth hit me. I've mellowed.
Mellowing doesn't have to be a bad thing, I guess. While I miss the carefree playing that is allowed and expected in high school and college, I certainly don't regret my life now. I suppose I could be one of those crazy, playful moms. I'm not. Perhaps I should be. It doesn't really feel like me anymore. I don't know if I should be sad about it. It feels a little sad. But isn't there a saying about a good wine mellowing with age? I guess I'm like a good wine. . .although I'm going to have to take another's word for it.:)
Here are some of my favorite playmates.

Jill (aka Babs) and I solidified our friendship over dancing, church and bad dates:) She is really a blast to be around and stuck through me through some pretty rough patches. Even when we haven't spoken in months and months, when we reconnect it's like we haven't missed a beat. We could probably still do some of the dances we made up together - or at least one specific move that we practiced over and over again (I know you know it, Jill!)
Erdie (Michelle) and I acted in our friend Kari's student body president's speech. I was the principle, Michelle was the vice principle and Kari wrestled us. Wow...the lengths we'll go to to hold office in high school!
My best friends in high school. Clockwise starting with me at the bottom: Me:), Lisa, Kari, Diane and Jill.

I was always great friends with my volleyball teammates. You spend so much time during a season with them that even if you don't hang out on weekends, all the bus time and road trips makes for some great friends.

I "played" with this band for a summer. They were the Dixieland Seven and decided to add some vocals to a few of their songs. We even made an album! It was called Zizzybaluba (I think). I wish I could have sang with them more than a few times. It really is my dream.

Disco skating in college with the roomies (Michelle and Valerie). I was tough to live with in college so these girls were gems to put up with me. We had some great, great times.

Every wife of a med student needs a couple of good friends to keep her going. I had two great friends during those four years. Here's Libby...

and here's Christi. My sister-in-law whose husband did dental and periodontics school told me as we were starting that some of my life-long best friends would be made while we were in school. She spoke the truth. Going through it together cements a friendship.

Here's most of the girls and couples we hang out with now. None of them are wives of residents which doesn't really make a difference. Although sometimes it's hard because you know nobody really understands what it's like.

Andrea and I have been friends since I moved here but we've really bonded lately with bookgroup and blogging. I will miss her enormously next year.

The karaoke on the cruise cemented our friendship. If a Princess Idol contestant can sing with KariAnn and I then you are a true friend. I hope we can repeat the experience soon.
Cruising through these pictures, I can see that you are a totally a girl who knows how to play. I don't think I've dressed up that many times in my life! Very cute SPT!
Love this spt post. I have mellowed also from my college days of disco skating and rock n bowl.
oh how much fun are you lucy?
i really can see your personality and i like what i see!! I just know that we would be great friends...
Very cute. My husband sang with a band through High School, they even opened for Bon Jovi. Every time we move somehow the YM in our ward end up starting a band, bad influence of a YM leader?
He has a dream someday to start a band of corporate drones like himself. He'll need hot chicks for vocals, we'll give you a call!
I don't "know" Lelly either, but that is what is so cool about the blogging world. You don't have to have the akward social experience of being invited to a group. You just jump in, we all play well together!
Well done.
I can tell by your pictures you are a fun and outgoing girl that loves to play. Great friends are a blessing, and you have many!
Hey, now everyone will steal that classic "us" dance move! Loved seeing those fun pics! You truly are so fun to be around and anyone who's life you touch will be blessed for having known you.
luv ya
Bon Jovi?!!!! Being married to Kelly A. already endeared him to me but now I'm offically a fan.
how funny-- i just read your comment on kellya's post and hopped over here to tell you that you don't need to be invited and that i am so glad you do spt. and i then read that kellya has already done that.
great minds think alike...
Since I have known you, I can attest you do play well with others too. If you need life in the party--invite Lucy!!
Fun trip down memory road. And Libby looks the same she did back in junior high (I know that isn't recent) but she still looks like sweet Libby!
I never knew you sung in a band--very cool. Great pictures!
Loved your spt post!! Great pictures...so fun to see!!
hi, lucy! i was pointed to your blog, and i'm so glad. i had tried to get back to you through some of your comments, but reached a dead end!!
i'm so glad you are taking the challenge, and i look forward to PLAYing with you in more challenges!! if it's OK, i'd love to put you on my sidebar.
Looks like you had some great times in your life and still are! I think it would be fun to get together with you! :)
Glad that you posted your SPT. I know you think you've mellowed, but I'm sure you are just as much fun. Wish I could sing. That is truly a God given talent.
You've mellowed? Are you sure? ;)
Wow! Looks like you are great at "playing with your friends!"
So fun!! Loved all the pictures!!
Hey Luc!
That was so sweet of you to include me in your blog. You know that you are and will always be one of my best friends!!!! Now with the picture, gorgeous of you, but myself scared me a bit. Gotta love the days of my overall collection. And I think I had just had a brand new perm-still WAY curly. But, we sure had a good time at the Kelsey's house for Easter. Was that 5 years ago? Woo boy, time goes by fast. Miss you!
Ok of all the spt posts I've seen, you know how to play more than anyone I know! :) It's weird to look back and see how we've changed. I try to be the fun, light-hearted mom, but you don't want to be the immature mom either.
I am going to search ebay right now for Zizzybaluba!
I think the comment on my social skills check box says "doesn't apply herself"
Sun! Karaoke! I'm coming on the next cruise!
Hey! I made your blog again. Thanks for thinking of me. You do play well with others. You are a fun friend. Where do you get these spt things from? It looks like fun.
