That's how long I slept last night. My week and weekend caught up to me and when Jen and Christopher left, I crawled into bed for a "nap" and woke up at 9:30 pm. I came stumbling out of our bedroom and found Jay watching The Amazing Race. He rewinded it for me and watched it again with me. After that, it was back to bed until 6:45 this morning! Funny...but I don't even feel refreshed. I'm hoping that feeling will come soon. With no school, I need to be "on" but I would love a day where I could hibernate in my pajamas and read. In the meantime, until I can find that on switch, I threw on a star wars movie and sat down to get caught up in blogland.
Friday was an incredibly busy day. I had about 10 errands to run and felt like I was just hopping in and out of my van all day. My boys were generally good sports about it but I felt bad that Seth's day off from school was filled with things that are boring for him. We got home and picked up the house for Jen and Christopher's arrival. They showed up at about 5:00 and we ordered Mexican take-out. Christopher watched all seven kids during the concert and we left him 7:15. As soon as we got out of the van to walk to the cathedral, I realized I had a major problem. My new nylons would not stay up. I had thought when I put them on that the elastic in the waist seemed timid and that brief walk demonstrated its complete failure. I held them on with one hand until we were safely inside and then, making sure no one was around to see, hiked those babies up as far as they would go. Blasted walmart brand nylons! Jen left me to go get a seat and I met the rest of the choir in a back room. Every time I stood up, those nylons slipped down and I eventually went into the bathroom and just took them off.
I was relieved to find out I was not overdressed. My sister, Maureen, is a choir director at a high school in Utah and in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir so has lots of fancy clothes. She sent a couple of concert black numbers back with Jay when we went there to interview two weeks ago. I opted for the black velvet top and skirt complete with Dana's jewelry. The men were in tuxedos and most women were wearing pearls or sparkles so I was happy with my choice.
Someone handed me a program and I was surprised how thick it was. It's the kind of program you get when you go see a musical or opera. I read about all of the soloists and our director, Gunther Schuller.
I was even in the program. I didn't know if I would be due to my late entry into the game but my name was at the top of the list of altos!
The concert was really fun. Singing the music with the orchestra without any stops and all of the solos really brought both the Vivaldi number and the Bach piece come alive. Those men were true geniuses and the complexities of harmonies and counterpoint are phenomenal. There were no glitches, no big mistakes made and the audience seemed to enjoy themselves. I'm so glad I was able to be a part of it but sad that I just discovered this opportunity. It was kind of my break into the music scene here and now we're leaving. Maybe I'll be a little more proactive when it comes to music where ever we end up.
Jen and I went to pick up Jay after the concert. He had to wait a little while for us but it was so good to see him after a week! He had brought home a box of See's chocolates and wanted to know all about the concert on the way back. I could tell he was tired after his twelve hour days of lectures and cases and lack of sleep from an uncomfortable bed and he crashed as soon as he was home.
Saturday, we all went to Staggering Ox for lunch before Seth had his basketball game. I thought it was really cool that they allowed these pass along cards in their restaurant.
Of course, they were nestled in between a gym membership raffle box and some gossip magazines but they were there!
Seth's game was hilarious. They got "crushed" again (Seth's words). I don't know what kind of basketball mom to be. The "as-long-as-they're-having-fun" mom without a care in the world or the kind that wants more bang for my buck and wished they had a coach that actually taught them how to play. I feel frustrated at his games. Seth is really excited about the game of basketball so having fun isn't a problem. But he doesn't have any direction! I took this video of him and unfortunately didn't turn on the audio but even this silent film shows perfectly Seth's style of play. It's called, "I'm open!"

Lucy, You look GORGEOUS in your concert black. I wish I could have seen the concert. I've never been in St. John's Cathedral. It looks beautiful. I'm glad you had so much fun with Jen and Christopher. Your kids are so lucky to have each other. It looks like you had a great weekend. Thank goodness for the blog so I could catch up on everything.
You looked beautiful! The outfit was perfect. What a great weekend! I would need several days to recover from all of that fun. Glad you got the package. Aren't those Truffels the best! Have a great week! (I please feel no guilt about the good mail-it was fun)
What an awesome post of your weekend. I felt like I was there! Lovely dress, beautiful necklace. Congratulations on your big gig!
Basketball: YMCA=frustrating sports experience in my limited wide world of sports.
Cousin friends are the best. Glad your husband made it home too.
We had TWO HC speakers! Restless!
Well done on your weekend, I'm glad you had fun.
I'm so glad you had this wonderful opportunity to sing in such a great choir. I wish I could have been there!!! I talked with Camille Crannie who was there, and she said you sounded great.
You also looked fabulous! And darn those panty-hose. They should be outlawed and banished.
You crush me with all the many things you do. Just breathing sometimes wears me out. Hope you get some more rest this week.
Lucy you looked so beautiful. Jen told me Saturday night (At Annie) that you did fantastic. She is really going to miss you when you move to Utah. I am glad you were able to have a wonderful weekend.
Sure wish I could have been there to hear you! You look beautiful! Hope you catch up on needed rest.
Lucy!
You looked amazing for your debut! And just so you know, the toggle clasp is meant to be worn in the front as to show off the Onyx pendant and danglies :P
I am completely worn out just reading that post. I hope you do get some much needed Zzzzz.
When do you guys move to Utah?
Saturday was a "grouchy" day for me. Right after I hung up the phone from talking with you I realized you had had your concert and I didn't ask you how it went. Sorry!!! I guess my grouchiness got the best of me.
Nevertheless, I'm glad to hear that it went well and you had a good time. How did the Mac and Cheese turn out? Caleb is jealous of Seth and Ansel's time together. Looks like everyone had a good time! And you looked great all dressed up!
Wow! You looked amazing and so dazzling. I really wish I could have heard you sing.
As for basketball, we are in the same boat with Jared. He absolutely loves it, but the coach didn't really teach very well (according to Doug b-ball guru) We have black balled YMCA and do CYO sports. I am happy our season is finally over.
You and Jay catching up on your shows sounds like us last night. We are off to watch 24. Sounds like a great, exhausting, but worth it weekend :)
Hey enough of the HC bashing! I am sure he didn't WANT to speak for 35 mintues. You should bash your bishop for not having anything more prepared.
Sorry, just a little touchy from a fellow HC.
Sound like you had a great weekend. Tara and I are starring in our ward choir next week. Any takers? You know that any ward that is desperately dependent on Tara and myself to carry our soprano and bass sections repectively, has got to be pretty hard up.
Adios amiga.
Dana- I love the toggle in front but it didn't look as good with that particular dress. But I wore it again on sunday with the pendant and dangles in front and got lots of great comments! I love its versitilty!
Tara - the Mac and Cheese was the best ever! The kids loved it and I loved the left overs! Thanks again for the recipe.
Jon- no offense for you high councilors but this one was dry indeed. I'm sure you're NEVER boring though:)
Oh you looked fantastic for your big debut!!! (Love the necklace, by the way! ;)) That was so kind of your sister to offer you her wardrobe.
I'm sure you did very well!!! I'm glad you had a great weekend with your sister!
Where is that outlet that sells Costco returns? I'm totally interested!!! I'm a BIG Costco shopper!!
Oh, and you have a question on my blog about Financial Peace from Kristine. I posted your blog addy for her but told her I'd summons you back to my blog to answer her. Just wanted to let ya know! ;)
I'm so glad I'm getting to know you! You are so extremely likeable!!
You look fantastic! So pretty in your outfit! Sounds like a great time. :)
What a busy weekend for you! You look stunning in your black dress. What a wonderful opportunity. Way to use your talent! I miss hearing your beautiful singing voice.
You look gorgeous, stunning, breathtaking. Seriously, no modesty allowed - you're a knockout. I thought of you on Friday evening as we were driving to Spokane. You almost received a static-y cell phone good luck call, but reception was just too bad. Congratulations!!
I have been so excited to hear about your big night!! I was thinking of you all Friday. You looked gorgeous!! St. John's is amazing. I've always wanted to see what it looks like inside. Thanks for the peak! I'm so glad it went well and you had a terrific time. Congratulations!!
Apparently Tyler and I were following you around all Sat. We went to eat at the Staggering Ox (our first time...SO GOOD!) when we left I felt like a staggering ox after all the food I ate. OK...that blue horsie sauce...AMAZING!! Thanks for the great recommendation.
We also hit the Costco Returns Warehouse store...no treasures for us though.
I'm glad you had fun with your sister! You guys are so cute! Henry's smile is so contagious...cute park pics.
Oh my gosh -- so much to say...
You looked beautiful! Loved the way you wrote about the experience- how very special for you and CONGRATS again!
The exhaustion hit you-- was it an emotional exhaustion, too? Are you sad that it is over? Can't wait to hear about what you take on next!
I thought about you and wondered how it went!!
