As a mother of sons, I've been expecting the dirt, the noise, the quickly disappearing food and the broken bones. Most of those things have happened exactly as promised.
Except the broken bones part. We've managed to limit the severity of injuries to those that can be fixed with band-aids and Neosporin.
Until now.
My sister, Maureen, is visiting for a few days and she and I took the kids on a morning hike. We choose to follow the path with some exercise stations, including a very tall - and definitely for adult use - monkey bars (although, I'm pretty sure that isn't the name they use for the station. But...can you think of another name for them?).
Seth is very adept at swinging from bar to bar and performed this very feat to perfection before attempting it a second time.
He climbed up on a rock. He leaped. He missed.
He came down hard on his wrist and I had never seen him in so much pain. The hike back home was hard because he was so pale and really scared.
As soon as we got home, I gave him some Tylenol (with codeine), put his wrist on ice and showered as quickly as I could. We drove to a surgical hospital that Jay was working at and got right in. After some very good care, we headed to X-Ray and then off to Dad's office to read them. He broke his ulna (well, it's called a dorsal bulge - or something like that. I'm sure Jay will correct me), and Seth will be in a splint for the rest of the summer.

Post splint and smiling through the pain for a picture. He tearfully told me he's "never doing the Monkey Bars again." Poor Seth.

Poor Seth, he looks in so much pain in that first picture, but how awesome and hopefully comforting to be able to go to your dad's hospital.
And yippee Maureen was visiting so you didn't have to take the other two in for your first xray!
Oh, poor Seth! Brynlee broke her arm when she was 6, and I remember that pale painful time until they get fixed up. It kind of makes my stomach ache to remember it. So sad! I hope he's able to find some summer fun even with a splint!
I guess it is only appropriate the first is first. What a perk to have Jay in the field.
Poor Seth. Eli is my only child to break a bone too. It happened right after we got home from adopting Lily and it was a LONG summer of not being able to enjoy the water. How convenient that Jay is a radiologist.
On a completely random note Seth looks like he's grown a lot. How tall is he now?

A. went off the porch on his scooter (dared by his brother) and snapped both bones in his forearm a couple of years ago. He had to cut his soccer season short. But he didn't have a cool dad working at the hospital; that would have made things much nicer! But that's been our only broken bone so far, knock on wood.
Hope Seth heals quickly and finds a fun way to pass the rest of the summer. BTW I think what you're describing is what we always called cross bars? The monkey bars were the ones set up kind of like a cage that you could climb, and the cross bars were the ones you swung across with your hands. But maybe that was just Idahospeak.
Bella broke her arm on the monkey bars too. What a bummer, especially with summer still in session. I hope he's feeling alright.
The poor guy!! We have never had a broken bone either, but I know the day will eventually come!

Sorry to hear about Seth! He's a trooper hiking back down with a broken ulna or dorsal bulge, or whatever it is he broke.

It is such a bummer to break your arm during the summer. Emma did it last year. Hopefully, he can get a waterproof cast and still enjoy the fun summer things like sprinklers and pools.
Oh, I am so sorry! There is nothing harder than a kid in a cast for the summer. But at least he will be able to walk & run around. I hope he starts to feel better soon!

Oh, poor Seth! This is not a good time of year to be in a cast!! But he's a little trooper. I'm sure you guys won't let it put a damper on your summer fun.

As a mother that has been in an ER more times than I can count(though never for a broken bone), I offer you both my deepest sympathies. It's so hard to see your child in pain.
I'm so sorry for Seth having to go through that and having to wear a bulky splint for the rest of the summer. It was a relief to see the smile in the second picture.
Hmmm...It just occurred to me that the last time Maureen visited us we ended up in the ER with Natalie. We may have to take more precautions when she's visiting. :)
I'm so sorry Luc!!! That just reminded me of when Jackson had his little accidents. Remember the broken leg, arm, and toe? Luckily they were at different times, but still, I'm sure people were wondering why I was a mother.
I can't believe how "long" he looks on that hospital bed. He sure is growing up!!! I hope he heals quickly!!! Poor guy!!!

So much to catch up on, I am glad you love your town! One reason I loved moving here from Utah is I didn't feel weird anymore having no make up on and pajama bottoms on.
Poor thing. At least he has a cool story to tell. and a cool cast to show off. Could be a great conversation starter to make new friends.
It's good to see at least after getting "fixed" there was somewhat of a smile. I am just waiting for that day to have to go into dad's office. Glad it wasn't worse!
