I love this picture...makes the heart of a reader pitter pat.
I read once that the strongest indicator of whether or not children read a lot when they grow up is whether their FATHER read a lot when they were young.

What great examples! I wish Chris would read. Every time my family catches me reading they know its time to get into trouble because mom is not paying attention. That is the only thing my kids have learned about books!

Emily, Sammy likes to pretend that he can read harry potter. He'll sit there for at least a half an hour, turning pages and then say something like, "whew, I need a break. I just read about 300 pages." But, with our reading lessons, he's starting to recognize certain words, like "of" and "and" and "the" etc. He gets excited when they jump out of the page at him. I get excited too.

I have the same thought every time Jon throws the dish towel over his left shoulder and starts a scrubb'n. I can only hope that Caleb will follow that example.

I got your card today, thank you for your generous words. I'm not crazy about the intimidating thing, it comes up once in a while, and I don't know what to do about it.
My son is like his father. Am I ever glad I chose a good husband, I didn't know how important it would be in the kind of son I would have. The father hero worship is something else!

My son takes after his dad, too, but not in such a useful way. Nope. He wears glasses at a young age and is already taking apart anything mechanical whenever I dare to use the bathroom by myself.
What a great photo! Did you know that kids who see their dad reading are more likely to be good readers themselves? (Strangely enough, it doesn't work the same with reading mothers.) Your kids are destined for reading greatness!!

Lucy - what a wonderful photo! Would that all of my sons picked up my hubby and my shared love of reading. Alas, Son #1, still claims indifference. However, I picked up a used copy of "The Day my Butt Went Psycho," figuring with a title like that, it has to appeal to even non-reading 11 yo boys. He said "You wasted money." But the next day, I caught him reading bits of it to my middle son. YESSSSS!
