It was bound to happen. I was afraid it would happen. It has happened.
I gained a pound.
I don't even know how. I looked back at my food journal for the past week and I'm eating everything I usually eat (salad with veggies. Greek yogurt. Fresh fruit. Lean meat). I'm working out harder than I ever have. I had a good weekend. On Saturday, I went to an hour of Zumba and then an hour of Strength Pilates (oh.my.goodness.hard). Jay and I did go on a dinner date that night but I ordered Mahi Mahi and had steamed vegetables and salad as my sides. No bread. No potato. No dessert. And yesterday, I had oatmeal for breakfast, cheese and crackers for lunch (which, I admit isn't very healthy but it was like seven wheat thins, people. Seven!) and salmon and asparagus for dinner. I did have about twenty asparagus stalks. Maybe that is the culprit. To be honest, though, I'm scratching my head.
I'm drinking about 130 oz of water every day. I enter all of my hand written logs into the livestrong.com (go to My Plate and enter in your food. It's really awesome) website and it calculates my total caloric intake every day to be between fourteen hundred and fifteen hundred calories. I know I'm burning at least a thousand every day working out and even though I realize my metabolism, which appears in my head as a grumpy old troll I'm trying to woo, is stingy and unwilling, I have to be burning more than four hundred calories during the rest of the day. The math doesn't add up!
I suppose it's because I'm a woman and we have water weight and monthly cycles and blah-di-da-blah-blah-blah-blah. Whatever the reason, it stinks. It takes away a fighting woman's mojo and I need that mojo!
As a consolation prize, I have noticed a change in the way my clothes are fitting. Pants that used to give me a muffin top are now fitting right out of the dryer and then stretching into too big. I also think my face is looking a little thinner. Yay.
Instead of soothing my wounded soul with a King Size Twix, I'm drinking my nalgene bottle of water and psyching myself up for my most perfect week ever. Sure, it's Sam's birthday this week and I will be making cupcakes and cake, as well as ordering pizza for his party, but I'm not going to eat any of it. This is the final countdown for January. Monday is our last weigh in and final measurements. I'm going for it.

If it is that time of the month- there ya go. I am serious. I can be doing so great and not change a thing and then that one week, BAM, the scale betrays me even though my habits have not! Chin up, this week will be better!
Glad you are not turning to that Twix- can't wait to read your check in on Monday!
It happens, even on the real Biggest Loser! Have a GREAT week and your efforts will show at your next weigh in.
Isn't that so frustrating! This is why I always try on a too tight outfit, it really helps to see the change in the clothes! Great job Lucy!!!
I've been a terrible commenter lately, but I've been reading. I am so impressed! This sounds hard, and your attitude about it has been amazing to me. Sorry this week was frustrating, but I'm sure you will see results next week that you are pleased with. And really, the change in how your clothes fit is exciting and lets you know that you are making progress. You're inspiring!
Lucy, Lucy, Lucy, muscle isn't weightless! It was bound to add up. Add your water weight and by my calculations you're down 15 :)
I'm proud of you. Keep the mojo.
I like your math, Jane!
I think the demons are out because today I have been hungrier than ever. It's not fun. These are the days when I wish I hadn't made my effort so public...but then again...these are probably the days when it's a really good thing I did.
Hang in there Lucy!! It is true, that these things happen, but it is also true that your pants are looser, and your face it thinner. Keep the positive! Let go of the negative! I'm glad that you made this public so we can all cheer you on!
GO LUCY!!!!
I'm sorry...that totally stinks! You have a great attitude! Keep going :)
I hate that! And you're right, it IS bound to happen. The good news is that next week will be terrific - just stay focused and your lifestyle, not any numbers! You're wonderful, by the way.
Hey, Lucy. I hope next week is better for you. I know you can do it!! Hugs!
I agree with everything said! Muscle has weight (my family has reminded me that for years now!) and our bodies cycle water weight every month (most inconvenient when you're trying so hard to do well!) and everything is going to be fine because you're doing lots of good things. Having been a big Weight Watchers fan for years I can add a little tidbit that there are hidden calories all over the place. But given that you are working out so much, I wouldn't even give that a thought about hidden calories.
We love you! Cheering you on!!
Such a bummer and definitely discouraging but I'm so impressed by your determination. Keep it up!
And the clothes fitting better...way more important than a silly number. :)
so sorry!! keep going, don't get frustrated. I have to tell myself these same things too. I had a water week too-as in the "communists" visited my innards this week. I hate it.
Good luck! positive thoughts coming your way.
Okay, it's been said. But for sure it is the lean muscle. Hang in there!
Thinking of you tomorrow as you weigh in. Keep up the good work. You are such an inspiration!
