Bookgroup Without the Book...or the Group

I was aware last night of an ongoing gathering taking place in a dreamland up north that I am no longer a part of. I felt a pang. Bookgroup each month with this extraordinary group of women was always a highlight and knowing that I was no longer a part of it (although...you never know. I could see me making a surprise guest appearance someday) left me feeling a bit melancholy.

Kelly called me to see if I wanted to eat Sushi with her and her son but I had already started dinner and when Jay walked in the door from work, and I was on the phone, there was popcorn all over the carpet (horrible, horrible idea for a snack) and all three boys were doing their best impersonation of the boy version of Veruca Salt (I want it now!), it wasn't exactly the best time to say, "See ya!" But after dinner, after dishes, after the boys transformed back into sane beings...I asked Jay if he minded if I went to visit Kelly one last time before she left town. He gave me his full blessing and I called and arranged to meet Kelly at Chili's so we could get the desserts that we had to cancel after our sushi-canceled-bad-tex-mex dinner.

Kelly filled the void. We stayed until we were too parched to talk anymore (our waitress stopped refilling our water glasses about an hour earlier). I feel so lucky that I have made this great friendship in the last few months. It was a great night. So comfortable, so funny. I left with a smile on my face. It was perfect.
